WORCESTER, Mass. – Rev. John Dear, S.J., executive director of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, will give a lecture entitled "Toward a Peace Culture: The Journal of Radical Non-Violence," on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Room 519 at Holy Cross. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Dear, a long-time peace activist, author, lecturer and retreat leader, is the first Catholic priest to head the largest and oldest peace and justice organization in the U.S. and the world. He has been involved in peace work in El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, the Middle East and the Philippines; he has also worked with the homeless in Washington, D.C., disenfranchised women and children in Richmond, Va., and with Sr. Helen Prejean, C.S.J., protesting the death penalty.
The author of several books including Disarming the Heart: Toward a Vow of Nonviolence, he is the editor of And the Risen Bread: Selected and New Poems, 1957-1997 and Apostles of Peace; Essays in Honor of Daniel Berrigan.
The lecture is sponsored by the Peace and Conflict Studies Program.
