Approximately 250 students, faculty, and staff from Holy Cross braved the chilly weather (the temperature reached a high of 35 degrees) on March 26 to take part in community service throughout the city of Worcester as part the 14th annual Holy Cross Cares Day.
Volunteers performed service-oriented activities, including painting, raking and picking up trash at schools, churches, and parks throughout Worcester, including the Nativity School, Cookson Park, and South Worcester Neighborhood Improvement Center. Holy Cross Cares Day is a completely student-organized event.
U.S. Representative Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Mayor Joseph O’Brien, joined City Manager Michael V. O’Brien and Holy Cross President Rev. Michael McFarland, S.J., (both of whom participated as volunteers) in addressing College volunteers at a kick-off breakfast before the event in the Hart Recreation Center.

The wider Holy Cross community also pitched in. More than 200 Holy Cross alumni participated in their local communities. Alumni volunteer cities included Worcester, Boston, Hartford, New York City, Syracuse, N.Y., Chicago, and Naples, Fla.
