"Four ways 9/11 changed America's attitude toward religion"

CNN.com

In a CNN.com story, Mathew Schmalz, associate professor of religious studies at the College of the Holy Cross, commented on how the events of Sept. 11, 2001 changed America's attitude toward religion.

"We had this sense of specialness and invulnerability that 9/11 shattered," he told CNN.com. "Given that a large section of the world's population deals with random violence every day, one of the outcomes of 9/11 should be a greater feeling of solidarity with people who live in cities like Karachi (Pakistan) in which violence is a part of everyday life."

David O'Brien, a professor emeritus of history at Holy Cross now teaching at the University of Dayton, was also quoted in the story.
