More than 300 students, faculty, and staff from the College of the Holy Cross will participate in the 15th annual Holy Cross Cares Day on Saturday, March 24. Volunteers will perform service-oriented activities, including painting, raking and picking up trash at schools, churches, and parks throughout the City of Worcester. Holy Cross Cares Day is a completely student-organized event.
Volunteers will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom at the College and then disperse to different locations around the City at 10 a.m.
Mayor Joseph M. Petty and State Sen. Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) will join Holy Cross President Rev. Philip L. Boroughs S.J., approximately 50 Holy Cross students and College Hill neighbors for an overall park rehabilitation at the Cookson Park site.
“Holy Cross Cares Day is a great opportunity for students and members of the Worcester community to come together in the spirit of forging new partnerships, while simultaneously working together to attain a common goal for the greater good,” shares Kenneth Calemmo ’12, a student organizer.
In addition, more than 400 Holy Cross alumni will participate in Holy Cross Cares Day through volunteer efforts in their local communities. Alumni volunteer cities include Worcester, Boston, Hartford, Conn., New York City, Syracuse, N.Y., Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Naples and Tampa, Fla., Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. View alumni sites around the country.
Holy Cross volunteers will be divided between the following Worcester sites:
- Canal District Alliance, Blackstone River Bank clean up (McKeon Road)
- Nativity School of Worcester (67 Lincoln Street)
- Cookson Park (entrance near Kendig Street, off College Street)
- St. Stephen School (355 Grafton Street)
- Crompton Park (Harding Street to Endicott Street)
- Worcester Tree Initiative, (West Boylston Street, by the eagle statue)
