On April 20, 2013, Jeffrey Reppucci ’13 will launch his service initiative called Working for Worcester, as 1,000 volunteers will build, renovate, and restore 12-15 different sites and activity spaces around the city, including a dance studio at the Worcester Youth Center.
Speaking to several local media sources, Reppucci noted his close ties to the community, saying, “My father and sister both went to Holy Cross.” Reppucci, a Russian studies major, is also a member of the hockey team at the College. “I am no stranger to Worcester,” he told the Telegram & Gazette.
Reppucci developed Working for Worcester after founding a nonprofit organization, Students Helping Children Across Borders Inc. (SHCAB), which raised thousands of to build sports and wellness facilities in the Russian village of Suzdal, where Reppucci had traveled.
“Coming back from that amazing experience and reflecting on it,” said Reppucci, “there were so many elements that inspired me to do a similar outreach right here.”
“I’ve been involved in sports all of my life,” Reppucci said in The Pulse magazine, reflecting on the motivation behind his efforts. “I’m passionate about organized sports, but I’m also an advocate of kids just getting out to play and be active.”
Currently, Reppucci’s goal is to raise $50,000 for his massive outreach project, and participating schools will include Holy Cross, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Assumption College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
