Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has ranked the College of the Holy Cross No. 21 among all liberal arts colleges in the country in its annual list of “best value” schools, an increase from last year’s ranking of No. 25. The full list, which appears in Kiplinger’s December 2013 issue—on newsstands Nov. 5—features institutions that provide high-quality academics at a reasonable cost, particularly during these tough economic times.
According to Kiplinger’s, Holy Cross was ranked highly because “it exemplifies the attributes parents and students look for in higher education, including small class sizes, a good freshman retention rate and a high four-year graduation rate.”
To come up with their best values for 2013-14, Kiplinger’s took into account cost and financial aid, which were weighted most heavily; student indebtedness; competitiveness; student to faculty ratios; graduation rates; and academic support. Holy Cross was viewed particularly favorably because of its commitment to meeting the full demonstrated financial need of accepted students.
