Jamie Hoag ’98 Named Director of Government and Community Relations at Holy Cross

The College of the Holy Cross has announced the hiring of Jamie D. Hoag ’98 as the director of government and community relations. Hoag, an attorney, will replace interim director John B. Anderson ’57, associate professor emeritus of history and former mayor of the City of Worcester.

Hoag has extensive experience in federal, state, and local government, most recently serving in the administration of former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick as director of the Governor’s Office of Federal-State Relations in Washington D.C. (2011-13) and then in the State House as the Governor’s deputy chief legal counsel (2013-January 2015). Prior to his work in the Patrick administration, Hoag was a litigation associate at DLA Piper LLP and a law clerk to the Honorable David Mills of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

As a student at Holy Cross, Hoag was very involved in campus life as well as his studies. During his time at the College he was president of both his class and the College chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society. He was actively engaged in the Worcester community through various student programs. After graduation, Hoag served as a legislative aide for Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts) and subsequently worked in the office of the late Boston Mayor Thomas Menino as LGBTQ Community Liaison / Neighborhood Coordinator. Hoag received an M.A. in international affairs from American University’s School of International Service and a J.D. from America’s Washington College of Law.

“It is an honor to return to my alma mater and give back to a community that gave me so much” Hoag said. “I look forward to working closely with government and community leaders in Worcester to advance our common interests.”

As part of his responsibilities at Holy Cross, Hoag will serve as the College’s point of contact with the City of Worcester elected and appointed officials to help strengthen lines of communication and foster and explore partnerships between the City and the College. He will also represent Holy Cross in work and state and federal government agencies, key legislators, and other colleges and universities on issues concerning higher education policy development and legislation.

The government and community relations office was first led by Worcester City Manager and former Massachusetts state senator Edward Augustus.

Hoag will be working closely with assistant director of community relations Susan Hunt, who has a special responsibility for forging and fostering strategic and mission-oriented community partnership opportunities for students in the Greater Worcester Community.
