Blog: Thompson ’17 Set to Immerse Himself in the French Language and Culture While Abroad

NAME Jonathan Thompson ’17

HOMETOWN Saratoga Springs, New York

AREAS OF STUDY English and French double major with a Creative Writing concentration

WHERE HE’S STUDYING University of Strasbourg in France

WHY HE CHOSE FRANCE “I chose to study in France because I have been taking French since the seventh grade and have enjoyed learning and embracing the language and culture. I could not resist the opportunity to go abroad for a year, to improve my language skills and explore the culture firsthand. After immersing myself in a completely different culture, I believe I will come back to Holy Cross ready to take on my senior year and ultimately move confidently into the world.”

WHAT HE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “I am most looking forward to immersing myself in French culture and becoming fluent in the language. I look forward to excursions in Europe as well, but am most excited to form a second home in Strasbourg as I spend time with my host family and French peers.”

WHY HE’S BLOGGING “I decided to continue blogging while abroad because I love to write and see blogging as a fantastic opportunity to show prospective students what their study abroad experience could be like. I hope to use this blog to document my time abroad, as I know this is going to be a year I will never want to forget.”
