The Patriot League held a conference this summer in Philadelphia for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives to meet and discuss varying topics about the league. One of the goals for the meetings was to select an initiative for the Patriot League to implement during the 2015-2016 athletic season.
Two men’s cross country student-athletes, Chris Conley ’16 and G. Matthew Greco ‘17, attended the meeting and proposed their idea for the Patriot League initiative called the Heel the Sole Footwear Drive.
Conley and Greco worked to have the initiative implemented at Holy Cross this past spring, which was a fundraiser that encouraged all students to donate any spare shoes in decent shape that they would give to Veterans Inc. in Worcester. The footwear drive was selected by the Patriot League to be implemented as one of two initiatives to be put directly into effect by the conference.
