Ambassador Thomas ’78 Visits Political Science Class

Homecoming Weekend by speaking to students in Professor Christopher Rhodes’ Introduction to Comparative Politics class on September 25.

Thomas majored in political science at Holy Cross and earned an M.A. in urban planning from Columbia University before working as a foreign service officer for more than 30 years, including serving as U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh and the Philippines and working closely with then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice at the White House.

Ambassador Thomas drew upon his diplomatic experiences in his talk, focusing on the politics and cultures of India and Nigeria, two countries which students have been studying in Prof. Rhodes’ class and where Ambassador Thomas served early in his career.

Several students joined the Ambassador for lunch after the talk. “Students greatly enjoyed Ambassador Thomas’s dynamic, interactive presentations and frank conversations about global politics,” said Christopher Rhodes, Bishop James A. Healy Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in the political science department.
