Holy Cross Community Celebrates Retirement of Beloved Employee

November 24th, 2015 by

Charlotte “Sis” Wise recently swiped her last student in for dinner at Kimball Hall, retiring after nearly 31 years with Holy Cross Dining. Sis started in Kimball in 1984 as a line server but is best-known for her position as greeter, “swiping” students in to the main dining room.

Over the years Sis became a staple in the lives of most Holy Cross students, greeting each student by name and getting to know a little bit about their lives.

The Holy Cross community recently gathered to wish Sis farewell and celebrate one of the biggest legends Kimball Hall has ever known. Students and alumni shared their memories and well wishes on social media.

As alumni, I am sure we all have a favorite teacher or coach. Most of them were well-known and their names quite recognizable. Sis, you were neither a teacher nor a coach. In fact, to a lesser community, you may have been invisible in your role, but at Holy Cross you were well-known for the simple act of kindness you extended each day to students. I recall you at times adding that extra spoon of rice to my plate as you placed your index finger to your lips… “shhh.” You “fed our hearts and stomachs over the years,” and I thank you. You treated us just like our moms would! You were a welcomed reminder of home. You are loved and will be missed. Congratulations on your retirement.

    Your HC son,
