About the Ram-Crusader Cup Dedicated to the memory of Major Frank W. Cavanaugh, a Worcester, Mass. native who served as head football coach at both Holy Cross (1903–1905) and Fordham University (1927–1932), the cup has been contested since 1951, and is jointly sponsored by the Holy Cross Clubs of New York and Long Island. The series between Fordham and Holy Cross was interrupted after the 1954 season when Fordham dropped football, but was resumed in 1990 when the Rams joined the Crusaders as members of the Patriot League.
