Concerto Written for Yo-Yo Ma by Holy Cross' Osvaldo Golijov Has Its Album Debut

NPR

Osvaldo Golijov, the Loyola Professor of Music in the music department at the College of the Holy Cross, who NPR calls “one of today’s most popular composers,” wrote the cello concerto “Azul” for world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 2006. According to NPR, Golijov’s cello concerto blends influences from many musical traditions, the audience never knowing when “a snippet of tango, gypsy or klezmer music might break the surface.”
