Holy Cross’ Fall 2018 Seelos Film Series

The College of the Holy Cross will be featuring the following films in Seelos Theater this fall. All films are free and open to the public.

“I, Tonya
Wed., Aug. 29: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, and Allison Janney. Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
Fri., Aug. 31 and Sat., Aug 1: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Mark Hamill. Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares for battle with the First Order.

“Black Panther”
Wed., Sept. 5: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong’o. T’Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country’s past.

“All the Money in the World”
Fri., Sept. 7 and Sat., Sept. 8: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, and Mark Wahlberg. The story of the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty to pay the ransom.

“Phantom Thread”
Wed., Sept. 12: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Vicky Krieps, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Lesley Manville. Set in 1950’s London, Reynolds Woodcock is a renowned dressmaker whose fastidious life is disrupted by a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who becomes his muse and lover.

“Molly’s Game”
Fri., Sept. 14 and Sat., Sept. 15: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring  Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, and Kevin Costner. The true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target.

“Lean on Pete”
Wed., Sept. 19: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Charlie Plummer, Amy Seimetz, and Travis Fimmel. A teenager gets a summer job working for a horse trainer and befriends the fading racehorse, Lean on Pete.

“Annihilation”
Fri., Sept. 21 and Sat., Sept. 22: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Tessa Thompson. A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into a mysterious zone where the laws of nature don’t apply.

“The Death of Stalin”
Wed., Sept. 26: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, and Jeffrey Tambor. Follows the Soviet dictator’s last days and depicts the chaos of the regime after his death.

“Avengers: Infinity War”
Fri., Sept. 28 and Sat., Sept. 29: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring  Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo. The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

“The Insult”
Wed., Oct. 3: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Adel Karam, Kamel El Basha, and Camille Salameh. After an emotional exchange between a Lebanese Christian and a Palestinian refugee escalates, the men end up in a court case that gets national attention.

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor”
Wed., Oct. 17: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring  Joanne Rogers, Betty Aberlin, and David Bianculli. An exploration of the life, lessons, and legacy of iconic children’s television host, Fred Rogers.

“Adrift”
Fri., Oct. 19 and Sat., Oct 20: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Shailene Woodley, Sam Claflin, and Grace Palmer. A true story of survival, as a young couple’s chance encounter leads them first to love, and then on the adventure of a lifetime as they face one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.

“Ready Player One”
Wed., Oct. 24: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, and Ben Mendelsohn. When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune.

“Tully”
Wed., Oct. 31: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, and Mark Duplass. A mother of three hires a night nanny to help with her newborn.

“Hereditary”
Fri., Nov. 2 and Sat., Nov. 3: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, and Gabriel Byrne. After the family matriarch passes away, a grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences, and begin to unravel dark secrets.

“A Quiet Place”
Wed., Nov. 7: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, and Millicent Simmonds. In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.

“Oceans 8”
Fri., Nov. 9 and Sat., Nov. 10: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway. Debbie Ocean gathers an all-female crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.

“Blindspotting”
Wed., Nov. 14: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring  Daveed Diggs, Rafael Casal, and Janina Gavankar. Lifelong friends Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal co-wrote and star in this timely and wildly entertaining story about the intersection of race and class, set against the backdrop of a rapidly gentrifying Oakland.

“The Commuter”
Fri., Nov. 16 and Sat. Nov. 17: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, and Patrick Wilson. An Insurance Salesman/Ex-Cop is caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his daily commute home.

“You Were Never Really Here”
Wed., Nov. 28: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, and Ekaterina Samsonov. A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”
Fri., Nov. 30 and Sat., Dec. 1: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Rafe Spall. When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

“On Chesil Beach”
Wed., Dec. 5: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Emily Watson, and Anne-Marie Duff. Based on Ian McEwan’s novel. In 1962 England, a young couple find their idyllic romance colliding with issues of sexual freedom and societal pressure, leading to an awkward and fateful wedding night.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story”
Fri., Dec. 7 and Sat., Dec. 8: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, and Emilia Clarke. During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.
