‘We’re Trying to Get More Comfortable Being Uncomfortable,’ Says Holy Cross CIO

Holy Cross Chief Information Officer Ellen Keohane ’83 is trying to turn Information Technology Services into the College’s “innovation organization,” she recently told Business Officer Magazine.

To that end, Keohane and her team have shifted some resources from traditional IT roles like infrastructure and business applications, toward educational technology and innovation. She also pointedly created a separate budget to encourage and support innovation through experiments, by students, faculty and staff alike.

“In IT, we’re trying to get more comfortable being uncomfortable,” said Keohane. “Only a small percentage of what we try will probably take hold and be adopted on a large scale—and that’s OK.”
