Holy Cross Graduates Named to 2018 ‘Latino 30 Under 30’ List

Two Holy Cross alumnae, Kelly Garcia '15 and Yarlennys Villaman '14, are among those named to El Mundo Boston's "Latino 30 Under 30" list for 2018. Now in its third year, "Latino 30 Under 30" honors young individuals making an impact on the Massachusetts Latino community in the areas of business, sports, community service and fine arts.

Yarlennys Villaman '14

A passionate community advocate and activist, Yarlennys Villaman '14 is the Outreach Coordinator for the Community Engagement Division of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and is also serving three years as a commissioner for the City of Cambridge Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship.

She sat on the Board of Trustees for the College and is currently serving as the first Latina President for the Holy Cross Club of Boston which helps raise scholarship funds for the College and supports the creation of internships for students.

Villaman, a Spanish major with a Catholic Studies minor at Holy Cross, was one of the lead organizers for the FUNDOARCU Academic Scholarship, which provided five Dominican students with a scholarship for their college expenses.

Kelly Garcia '15

A psychology major at Holy Cross, Kelly Garcia '15 was elected at 23 years old as the youngest and only Latina Vice Chairwoman of the Chelsea, Massachusetts School Committee.

Back in 2015, she joined Teach for America, where she began her tenure as a Special Education Teacher, teaching grades 9-12.

Garcia takes great pride in her Puerto Rican roots, as well as her involvement in the local community, serving as a champion for her students.
