Holy Cross Fall 2019 Seelos Film Series

The College of the Holy Cross will be featuring the following films in Seelos Theater this fall. All films are free and open to the public.

"The Old Man & the Gun" Wed. Sept. 4: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Robert Redford, Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek. Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker and his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public.

"The Predator" Fri. Sept. 6 and Sat. Sept. 7: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes and Jacob Tremblay. When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe's most lethal hunters' return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled scientist can prevent the end of the human race.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" Wed. Sept. 11: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton. The story of the legendary rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid (1985).

"Aquaman" Fri. Sept. 13 and Sat. Sept. 14: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe. Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land.

"First Reformed" Wed. Sept. 18: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried and Cedric the Entertainer. A minister of a small congregation in upstate New York grapples with mounting despair brought on by tragedy, worldly concerns and a tormented past.

"Captain Marvel" Fri. Sept. 20 and Sat. Sept. 21: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

"Peterloo" Wed. Sept. 25: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Rory Kinnear, Maxine Peake and Pearce Quigley. The story of the 1819 Peterloo Massacre where British forces attacked a peaceful pro-democracy rally in Manchester.

"John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum " Fri. Sept. 27 and Sat. Sept. 28: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry. Super-assassin John Wick is on the run after killing a member of the international assassin's guild, and with a $14 million price tag on his head - he is the target of hit men and women everywhere.

"Late Night" Wed. Oct. 2: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson. A late night talk show host suspects that she may soon lose her long-running show.

"Shazam" Fri. Oct. 4 and Sat. Oct. 5: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Zachary Levi, Mark Strong and Asher Angel. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM - this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the grown-up superhero Shazam.

"The Souvenir" Wed. Oct. 9: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Neil Young, Tosin Cole and Tilda Swinton. A young film student in the early '80s becomes romantically involved with a complicated and untrustworthy man.

"A Simple Favor" Wed. Oct. 23: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Anna Kendrick, Ian Ho and Blake Lively. Stephanie is a single mother with a parenting vlog who befriends Emily, a secretive upper-class woman who has a child at the same elementary school. When Emily goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to investigate.

"Tolkien" Wed. Oct. 30: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins and Colm Meaney. The formative years of the orphaned author J.R.R. Tolkien as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school.

"Dark Phoenix" Fri. Nov. 1 and Sat. Nov. 2: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all of humanity.

"The Farewell" Wed. Nov. 6: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated PG. Starring Awkwafina, Tzi Ma and Diana Lin. A Chinese family discovers their grandmother has only a short while left to live and decide to keep her in the dark, scheduling a wedding to gather before she dies.

"Us" Fri. Nov. 8 and Sat. Nov. 9: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke and Elizabeth Moss. A family's serene beach vacation turns to chaos when their doppelgängers appear and begin to terrorize them.

"Rocketman" Wed. Nov. 13: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell and Richard Madden. A musical fantasy about the fantastical human story of Elton John's breakthrough years.

"Avengers: Endgame" Fri. Nov. 15 and Sat. Nov. 16: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo. After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos' actions and restore balance to the universe.

"Long Shot" Wed. Nov. 20: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen. Journalist Fred Flarsky reunites with his childhood crush, Charlotte Field, now one of the most influential women in the world. As she prepares to make a run for the Presidency, Charlotte hires Fred as her speechwriter and sparks fly.

"Men in Black: International" Fri. Nov. 22 and Sat. Nov. 23: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Kumail Nanjiani. The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.

"Wild Rose" Wed. Dec. 4: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Jessie Buckley, Matt Costello and Jane Patterson. A troubled young Glaswegian woman dreams of becoming a Nashville country star.

"Godzilla: King of the Monsters" Fri. Dec. 6 and Sat. Dec. 7: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown. The crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

"The Last Black Man in San Francisco" Wed. Dec. 11: Showings at 3:30 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Jimmie Fails, Jonathan Majors and Danny Glover. A young man searches for home in the changing city that seems to have left him behind.

"Spider-Man: Far from Home" Fri. Dec. 13 and Sat. Dec. 14: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson and Jake Gyllenhaal. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
