In a recent Fortune commentary, Donald Brand, professor of political science at Holy Cross, argues that rushing President Donald Trump's ongoing Senate impeachment trial will only worsen America's wounds. Instead we should let bipartisanship be the guiding star.

According to Brand, Trump should be held accountable for his offenses, but we must "proceed with caution lest we transform him into a martyr for the 74 million people who voted for him."

"This is a time for magnanimity, not vindictiveness," says Brand. "The tone of the Biden presidency will be irrevocably determined by his response in the days to come."
