What has American politics done to the Catholic Church? Holy Cross President Vincent Rougeau led a discussion on Nov. 16 in Rehm Library on campus to consider that question.
Joining him were Ross Douthat, a columnist for the New York Times and author of “To Change the Church: Pope Francis and the Future of Catholicism,” and Matthew Sitman, associate editor of Commonweal and co-host of the “Know Your Enemy” podcast.
The three considered about the entanglements of politics and religion, advantages and drawbacks, and whether and how to decouple them.
This event was put on by the McFarland Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture and co-sponsored Commonweal Magazine, the leading lay Catholic voice for commentary on religion, politics, and culture.
