The Integrated Science Complex at College of the Holy Cross will be renamed this summer in honor of Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the college’s most prominent alumni, Holy Cross President Vincent D. Rougeau announced Monday.

“Dr. Fauci vividly personifies the distinctive characteristics of a Holy Cross education, and we know his life and work are already inspiring the next generation of empathetic servant leaders,” Rougeau said.

The college’s science buildings will officially be dedicated as the Anthony S. Fauci Integrated Science Complex on June 11, during Dr. Fauci’s 60th Holy Cross class reunion weekend.

Fauci ’62, Hon. ’87, is Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Chief Medical Advisor to the President and the nation’s top allergy and infectious diseases expert. Over nearly four decades in the role, he has advised eight U.S. presidents and become a household name as he led the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts the past two years.

A classics major with a premedical concentration at Holy Cross, Dr. Fauci has often credited his professional success to the Jesuit intellectual rigor that was a core part of his Holy Cross education, which instilled in him a lifelong commitment to social justice.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Fauci in such a public and enduring way,” said Rougeau. “It’s fitting that Dr. Fauci’s name will adorn a complex designed to foster integrated learning across multiple academic disciplines – the kind of broad, collaborative and holistic thinking one needs to manage health crises such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola and Zika, or the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Fauci Integrated Science Complex is likewise a place where students actively engage in research and debate, encompassing science, ethics, the environment, psychology and human behaviors; and embrace a commitment to social justice and our Jesuit values to be people for and with others.”

Thanks in part to the tireless efforts of Fauci and health care professionals everywhere, the week after the dedication the 2020 class will reunite at Holy Cross for an in-person degree ceremony.
