Holy Cross Professor to be Published in New History Encyclopedia

WORCESTER, Mass. – Jerry Lembcke, associate professor of sociology and anthropology and a nationally recognized expert on the Vietnam War and veterans, will contribute a section on Vietnam and Indochina Wars for the new Princeton Encyclopedia of United States Political History.  Distinguished scholars from all over the country have been asked to take part in the project.

The book, containing 200 articles that dynamically explain the history of American politics, will delve into the evolution of democratic institutions, conflicts among social groups, and major issues, showing their impact on critical events. Anne Saverese of the Princeton University Press says Lembcke is “widely know as an authority on this subject,” and the articles “will inform and enlighten readers at all levels of knowledge.”

A member of the Holy Cross faculty since 1988, Lembcke earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Oregon and his B.S in mathematics at Augustana College. He recently published, CNN’s Tailwind Tale: Inside Vietnam’s Last Great Myth (Rowman & Littlefield Co.) and is currently working on the novel, Hanoi Jane: Vietnam and the Gendering of America’s Great Betrayal Narrative.
