Holy Cross Theatre Department Presents the Comedic Broadway Hit, Dinner at Eight

WORCESTER, Mass. – The department of theatre at the College of the Holy Cross presents the 1932 Broadway hit, Dinner at Eight, by George S. Kaufam and Edna Ferber. Directed by Steve Vineberg, professor of theatre, this hilarious and touching comedy will be performed on April 3-5 and 10-12 at 8 p.m. in Fenwick Theatre (located on the second floor of O’Kane Hall). Tickets are $7 for members of the Holy Cross community and $10 for the general public. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets at a special rate of $5 each.

This finely honed play displays the craft of the classic Broadway playwright.  While a self-involved socialite anxiously assembles a dinner party that threatens at any moment to turn into shambles, the play tracks the personal crises and triumphs of her guests.  The characters include a charismatic stage star, a squabbling husband and wife duo, social climbing Texans, a down-on-his-luck alcoholic actor — and the host, a shipping magnate in danger of losing his company in the dire early years of the Depression.
