WORCESTER, Mass. – Mark K. Shriver ’86, vice president and managing director of U.S. Programs for Save the Children, will give the annual Thomas More Lecture on Faith, Work and Civic Life on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Rehm Library at the College of the Holy Cross. The talk is free and open to the public.
Shriver leads Save the Children’s programs and advocacy efforts for children living in impoverished rural communities across the United States. A champion for vulnerable children and families, he attended Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government after graduating from Holy Cross, served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates and was Maryland’s first-ever chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Youth and Families.
Nephew of President John F. Kennedy and son of Sargent Shriver, founder of the Peace Corps and 1972 vice presidential nominee, Shriver built on his legacy by founding the innovative Choice Program, a public/private partnership that serves at-risk youth through intensive, community-based counseling and job training services.
The Thomas More Lecture honors a graduate of Holy Cross who exemplifies the College’s dedication to the integration of faith and learning. It is sponsored by the Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture.
