WORCESTER, Mass. – Former Holy Cross baseball player Brendan Akashian has signed a professional contract with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. The catcher went two-for-three in his first game as a pro on June 15 in the 6-5 win over the Midwest Sliders.
As a senior in 2008, Akashian was named to the All-Patriot League first team for the second straight year, while he also earned Holy Cross MVP honors for the second year in a row, receiving the Hop Riopel Award. Starting in all 46 games, Akashian led the team in RBIs (32), was second in on-base percentage (.450) and was third in batting average (.320). He was ranked third on the team in home runs (three) and in runs scored (30). Akashian also ranked third in the Patriot League in on-base percentage.
